A delegation of the Federal Ministry of Justice from the Federal Republic of Germany, conducted by Benjamin Strasser, parliamentary state secretary, is, these days, on an official visit to Chisinau. On Thursday, 23 May 2024, accompanied by H.E. Margaret Maria Uebber, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Moldova, had a meeting with the Ad interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, Adrian Cerbu, and Olga Marandici, advisor to the Director of the NIJ, head of the International Relations Section.
Today, May 23, 2024, at the National Institute of Justice, the President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), Siofra O'Leary, held a public lesson, which was attended by NIJ trainees and trainers, as well as by other representatives of the legal system and experts in the field. The topic of the event was Protocol No. 16 to the Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (ECHR), which entered into force in the Republic of Moldova on October 1, 2023, thus marking a significant step in strengthening the protection of fundamental rights in our country.
The International Roundtable, focused on exploring the impact of leaks such as the Panama Papers, Paradise Papers and LuxLeaks on prosecution and judicial review, took place on May 22, 2024. With the generic „From information leaks to justice: Challenges and Opportunities for the Judiciary in the Age of Disclosure”, the event was organized by the Corporate Crime Observatory (CCO) in partnership with the National Institute of Justice of the Republic of Moldova, the Superior School of Magistracy of Italy, Boston College Law School, Manchester Law School, and Government Accountability Project, Association of Corporate Investigators, Whistleblower Partners and University of Roehampton.
The trainees of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) represented the Republic of Moldova at the contest of the magistracy schools, THEMIS, organized by the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN), during May 14–17, 2024, in Budapest, Hungary. The NIJ team obtained third place at the prestigious contest addressed to future judges and prosecutors, competing with exponents of judicial training institutions from Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Poland, Portugal, and Hungary.
