The National Institute of Justice joins the international campaign on the Elimination of violence against Women “16 days of Activism against Gender-based violence”, initiated by the Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991, in order to promote and eliminate all forms of violence against women.
This year, the launch of the campaign has a special connotation: ,,Council of Europe Convention for preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, known as the Istanbul Convention, entered into force in the Republic of Moldova, which provides practical tools to ensure the protection of girls and women.
“Violence is a vice, genetic malice that has not been stopped at the right time. Our duty is to protect those who are subjected to this violence, as well as to develop a national culture of non-violence”, says the NIJ trainee, Ecaterina Soroceanu, candidate to the position of judge. Valentin Lungu, candidate to the position of prosecutor, believes that “The application of violence in the 21st century is nothing more than exteriorization of cowardice, lack of knowledge and education. Through this campaign, we want to raise the awareness of society to help stop the violent tendencies of daily life.”
In order to prevent the spread of the most common human rights violation and to combat this major problem facing society, the NIJ aims to provide more activities on informing and organizing judicial trainings on the phenomenon of violence against girls and women.
We remind that “16 days of Activism against Gender-based violence” is an international campaign that starts annually on November 25, the International Day for the fight against violence against Women, and finishes on December 10, the International Human Rights Day.
