In the spirit of its commitment to promote gender equality and combat all forms of violence, the National Institute of Justice joins the 2024 international campaign 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence.
Under the slogan "Towards Beijing +30: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls", this year's campaign marks the anniversary of the three decades since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action - a crucial document that outlined the fundamental directions for advancing gender equality and preventing violence against women worldwide.
In this period, the National Institute of Justice has planned several actions to raise awareness of this issue and promote effective solutions. In this regard, candidates to the positions of judge and prosecutor symbolically decorated the trees in the courtyard with orange bands, an initiative underlining solidarity with victims of abuse and the imperative for a future without violence.
"The training of future judges and prosecutors is not only about professional training, but also about cultivating a deep sense of responsibility and vision for fundamental human rights and respect for the dignity of every person. Through the actions carried out today, we reaffirm that justice, equality and the protection of the vulnerable are essential for a healthy society. Together we can stop this phenomenon and, through engagement and justice, build a world where violence has no place", emphasized, Dan Furculita, candidate to the position of prosecutor, on behalf of the trainees.
Among the planned activities there will be training programs dedicated to deepening the knowledge of the different forms of aggression and the legal mechanisms to combat them, which will be attended by judges, prosecutors, judicial assistants, clerks and prosecutors' consultants. The National Institute of Justice trainees, together with students from the State University of Moldova, the Police Academy "Stefan cel Mare" and the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts will simulate a criminal trial aimed at developing professional skills in dealing with cases of domestic violence and child sexual abuse. In parallel, NIJ beneficiaries were given access to two e-courses provided on the Council of Europe's HELP platform and adapted to the national legal order: "Women's access to justice" and "Violence against women and domestic violence".
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign was initiated by the Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and is a call to action to eradicate violence against women and promote gender equality.
