The Director of the National Institute of Justice, Diana Scobioala, met on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, with the Council of Europe experts - Ana Medarska-Lazova, HELP Project Officer, and Katrin Uerpmann, Deputy Secretary of the Committee on Bioethics. The meeting was also attended by Rodica Gramma, doctor in medical sciences, member of the Bureau of the CoE Committee on Bioethics.
The discussions focused on the long-term collaboration between the Council of Europe and the National Institute of Justice, particularly on the distance learning segment. So far, seven electronic courses for the representatives of the national law system have been adapted to the legislation of the Republic of Moldova and launched at the NIJ. In this regard, Diana Scobioala reiterated the importance of the distance learning activities conducted through the Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals Program, underlining their impact on the professional development of the beneficiaries of the National Institute of Justice.
Also, in the context of the recent launch of the seventh HELP electronic course "Key Human Rights Principles in Biomedicine" at the NIJ, the Director of the National Institute of Justice referred to the introduction of a new interdisciplinary module on law, medicine and bioethics in the Plan of continuous training of judges and prosecutors. This module provides training sessions addressing biomedicine and human rights issues, medical responsibility and medical malpractice, mental health and mental illnesses, etc.
Towards the end of the discussions, the interlocutors agreed that such trainings would help professionals effectively apply European principles on human rights protection.
