Traditionally, The National Institute of Justice joins the United Nations campaign „16 days of activism against gender-based violence” to reaffirm its strong commitment to stopping and combating gender-based violence. The theme of this year's campaign is „Let's invest in preventing violence against women and girls”.
During this period, the National Institute of Justice aims to organize several activities aimed at bringing into attention and contributing to the change of mentality regarding gender-based violence.
Today, November 27, 2023, NIJ trainees decorated trees in the yard with orange-colored ribbons. This visual manifestation expresses the solidarity of the emerging judges and prosecutors with the victims of this phenomenon, the orange color being the symbol of the future without violence for all girls and women.
„In a democratic society, where fundamental rights and freedoms are guaranteed, violence cannot be a rule of conduct, but a decline in good morals. For us, future judges and prosecutors, preventing and combating violence in all its forms is one of the main objectives” said, on behalf of the trainees, Natalia Nastasiu, candidate to the position of judge.
Also today, two e-courses on the HELP platform of CoE were activated for the NIJ beneficiaries: „Women's access to justice” and „Violence against women and domestic violence”. Online trainings are developed by the team of the European Programme of the Council of Europe for the training of lawyers in the field of human rights, being adapted to the national legal order and mentored by HELP certified tutors.
In the coming days, in partnership with the Women's Law Center, other actions will be carried out: public awareness lesson and opening of the exhibition „Do not blame clothes”, as well as continuing education activities to address the specificities of examining cases relating to domestic violence/violence towards children or investigating and examining crimes relating to domestic violence.
The „16-day campaign of activism against gender-based violence” is organized annually, between November 25 to December10, international Day for the elimination of violence against women and International Day of Human Rights. The activities carried out within the campaign are aimed at raising public awareness about the phenomenon of violence against women – the most widespread violation of human rights worldwide.
