The director of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Ms. Diana Scobiola, has met today on July 18, 2018, with the delegation of the Office of the Coordinator of U.S. Assistance to Europe and Eurasia, from the U.S. Department of State, responsible for the Republic of Moldova, led by Ms. Maria Sloniewsky.
Mrs. Maria Sloniewsky was accompanied by the representatives of the Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Section of the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, Moldova: Timothy Buckley, Director, Mr. Kevin Lanigan, Senior Justice Advisor , Radu Foltea, Legal counselor, Ms. Tatiana Lungu, Program Manager, and Ms. Theresa Howkins, responsible for the visit.
The topics discussed were focused more on the developments related to the institutional reform, initial and continuous training of judges, prosecutors, and other beneficiaries of the NIJ.
In this context, the Director of the NIJ reported about how the institution operates and about training procedures divided into two major segments: initial trainings of the candidates and continuous training of the judges and prosecutors in office. The focus was put on the reforms implemented in the admission process to the competition for the positions of judge and prosecutor, and on the initial training process based on simulations.
Also, the representatives were interested in issues related to technical endowment and capital repairs works carried out by the NIJ in order to equip new training rooms to conduct simulations set out in the Initial Training Plan, which was substantially re-conceptualized last year.
Ms. Alexandra Nica, the head of the Training and Research Department of NIJ and Ms. Valentina Conţescu, the director's advisor, also attended the meeting.
