On May 18, 2018, the American federal judges Eduardo Robreno and Dan Aaron Polster have visited the National Institute of Justice. The meeting was also attended by Shibani Malhotra, Senior Justice Advisor, Office of Criminal Justice Assistance and Partnership, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, US Department of State, also the representatives of the Criminal justice and law enforcement section of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova - Kevin Lanigan, Senior Justice Advisor and Radu Foltea, national legal counselor.
On this occasion, Diana Scobioala, the NIJ Director, has spoken about the attributions and the priorities of the National Institute of Justice, mentioning also the changes that take place within the initial training of the candidates to the position of judge and prosecutor, in particular through the integration of the simulated trials in the initial training course. In addition, the director referred to the elaboration of new continuous training plans according to the identified training necessities of judges, prosecutors and other justice sector professionals.
Subjects regarding future collaboration initiatives in the field of judicial training were also discussed and the American part expressed its availability to offer support and expertise for training according to the identified needs.
At the meeting, the NIJ was also represented by Valentina Contescu, the advisor of the Director, Alexandra Nica, the head of the Training and research division, Boris Talpa, the head of the Centre for Legal information, detached judge and Dumitru Obada, the head of the didactical-methodical and training of trainers section, detached prosecutor.
