On Thursday, July 13, 2023, the Project on Justice Reform and the Fight against Corruption (JARA) was presented at the National Institute of Justice, which will support, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Moldova to implement and promote its commitments to fight corruption.
The launch event took place with the participation of the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, the Deputy Administrator USAID for the Office of Europe and Eurasia, Erin McKee, the US Ambassador to R. Moldova, HE Kent D. Logsdon, Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, ad interim Director of NIJ, Ecaterina Popa, and Project Coordinator Anne M. Trice.
As part of the project, USAID will establish partnerships with the Ministry of Justice, the National Institute of Justice, the National Anticorruption Center, the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office and NGOs to achieve four objectives: creation of a mini-secretariat that will monitor the implementation of the Justice Development Strategy for the period 2022-2025; training of judges and court staff within the NIJ on specialized topics in the financial field (cryptocurrencies, financial purse, public procurement, etc.) and assistance for the extraordinary evaluation of judges and prosecutors; legislative and analytical expertise provided to the main anti-corruption institutions – NAC and PA; raising public awareness through civil society.
The project will have an implementation period of three years and will complement USAID's support for the law system in the Republic of Moldova.
