In the context of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, which is celebrated annually on June 26, the National Institute of Justice has activated two e-courses provided on the ILIAS of NIJ and HELP of CoE training platforms: „Standards of the European Committee for the prevention of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment (CPT)” and „Prohibition of ill-treatment in law-enforcement, security and other coercive contexts”.
The online training sessions are developed by the team of the European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals, being adapted to the national legal order and mentored by trainers of the National Institute of Justice, certified HELP tutors.
In order to strengthen knowledge and skills in the field of prevention and combating torture and ill-treatment, 92 NIJ' beneficiaries, including judges, prosecutors, prosecutors' consultants, judicial assistants, court clerks, staff from the courts and prosecutors' offices, NIJ trainers and trainees, have registered at these trainings.
The first course has as main objective the familiarization of the participants with the essential CPT standards in different places of deprivation of liberty. These include police stations, prisons, immigration detention centers, psychiatric establishments and social care institutions. The second course focuses on the European and international legal framework for human rights to prohibit ill-treatment. Both trainings are designed to provide comprehensive and practical training, using interactive methods, presentations, evaluation tests, scenarios and reflection exercises, as well as case studies to ensure a deep understanding of the subjects being dealt with.
The beneficiaries of the training will receive NIJ certificates based on the final test result.
