The National Institute of Justice, represented by the head of the Legal Information Centre (LIC), Tatiana Ciaglic, participated last week in the regional expert meeting group entitled ,,Strengthening identification and protection of trafficked persons, especially for the purpose of forced criminality, including through training curricula in South Eastern Europe”.
In her speech, Tatiana Ciaglic presented the NIJ’s actions regarding the initial and continuous training on the dimension of trafficking in human beings (THB), focusing on the practical and victim-centered approach of the trainings delivered to its beneficiaries. Thus, the simulative activities used in the training of the NIJ trainees and managed according to a methodology that allows the most real adjustment to the trial process, as well as various ongoing training activities (thematic schools, e-courses, seminars, workshops, etc.) have a valuable impact on the judicial training of the professionals in the system. The head of the LIC also mentioned the importance of complex treatment of the phenomenon of human trafficking and the condition of the victims of these crimes that justify the need of mixed trainings of investigative bodies and judges, including in adjacent areas.
The regional expert meeting group took place on January 18-19, 2023 in Tirana, Albania, and was organized by the UN Office on drugs and crime in collaboration with the National Coordinator for the Fight Against Trafficking in Persons of Albania and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden and OSCE. The workshop gathered the States of origin, transit and destination of THB from the broader region of South-Eastern Europe and the European Union to take stock of current challenges in the field and to discuss research and training aspects of professionals involved in investigating and judging the causes of trafficking in human beings and related crimes.
The participation of the NIJ representative in the meeting was possible thanks to the invitation of the State Chancellery of the Republic of Moldova, with the financial support of the UN Office on drugs and crime.
