The Director of the National Institute of Justice, Diana Scobioala, received the visit, today, October 2, 2019, of Dr. Rosemary Kumwenda, UNDP Regional Team Leader on HIV, Health and Development (HHD) for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, John Macauley, UNDP Regional Programme Specialist on HIV, Health and Development, and Alexandru Cocirta, UNDP Moldova Program Coordinator. The meeting was attended also by Valentina Contescu, Head of the Institutional Management Department of the NIJ.
The visit took place in the context of organizing in Chisinau the first Regional Forum of Judges in Eastern Europe and Central Asia on HIV and Law. The event will take place on October 3-4, 2019 and will include participants from Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine.
During the meeting, it was discussed about the progress made by the NIJ in order to make the activity more efficient on the segments: initial training, continuous training and training of trainers, including about obtaining three international certificates attesting the quality of the trainings offered by the Institute.
The Director pointed out the importance of organizing the Forum for the justice sector exponents in the region that will facilitate the exchange of information and experience in the field of protection of the rights of people living with HIV and co-infections. At the same time, Diana Scobioala specified the opportunity to integrate HIV modules in the judicial training of the beneficiaries of the NIJ.
For their part, the guests appreciated the partnership established between the UNDP and the NIJ, expressing their confidence that the partnership will continue in joint actions targeting an area as sensitive as HIV, law and human rights.
