From October 15-17, 2024, in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium, in the framework of the bilateral screening with the European Commission, the country presentations of the institutions responsible for Chapter 23 "Justice and Fundamental Rights" are taking place.
On behalf of the National Institute of Justice, the event is attended by Olga Marandici, advisor to the Director of the National Institute of Justice, Head of the international relations Section, and Ecaterina Popa, Head of the training and research Department. The presentation includes the functioning of the National Institute of Justice and the training process on the four dimensions: initial training, including the stage of entrance to studies, continuous training, training of trainers and distance learning.
During the question-and-answer session, the members of the European Commission expressed their interest in the quality of the initial training of NIJ trainees, the training of newly appointed judges and prosecutors, as well as the training plan for persons who have applied for the positions of judge or prosecutor on the work experience basis. Special attention was paid to the development of non-judicial skills such as judge craft, ethics and integrity, management and leadership etc.
Bilateral screening involves a detailed analysis of national legislation in relation to the EU acquis in order to identify the degree of alignment, differences and the measures required for fully aligning with EU standards.
