During 21-23 June 2022, the representatives of the Basel Institute on Governance (IBG) in Switzerland were on a working visit to the Republic of Moldova, in order to establish contacts with potential beneficiaries and outline concrete actions to be carried out on the basis of a Consultation Agreement, recently signed with the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Moldova.
On June 22, Jonathan Spicer, senior asset recovery specialist, and Stephen Ratcliffe, senior investigation specialist at International Centre for Asset Recovery (ICAR), accompanied by Diana Rotundu, ad interim head prosecutor of the Legal Assistance and International Cooperation Section of the General Prosecutor's Office, president of the Council of the National Institute of Justice, had a meeting with the NIJ team: Ecaterina Popa, ad interim Director, Valentina Conțescu, head of the Institutional Management Department, and Octavian Iachimovschi, Prosecutor, NIJ trainer, Director of the module-course “Economic, corruption and related crimes”.
During the dialogue, the parties addressed issues regarding the way of operation of the National Institute of Justice of the Republic of Moldova and the Basel Institute for Governance, training of prosecutors, judges and other professionals in several fields: unjust enrichment, assets recovery, terrorist financing, etc. At the same time, were discussed the modern methodologies for investigation of financial crimes, the use of information technologies in the investigation process, as well as the opportunity for NIJ beneficiaries to access e-courses provided on the Basel LEARN platform.
