During November 17-18, 2022 in Strasbourg, France, two events took place – the Steering Committee of the regional project “Women’s Access to Justice: delivering on the Istanbul Convention and other European gender equality standards in the Eastern Partnership countries” and launch of a report on the “Impact of COVID-19 on women’s access to justice”. The activities gathered together representatives of national authorities, civil society and judicial schools from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The National Institute of Justice was represented by the ad interim director, Ecaterina Popa, and the head of the International Relations Section, Olga Marandici.
At the Steering Committee, were discussed the obtained results and learned lessons during four years of project implementation, as well as its development prospects in the third phase. In her speech, Ecaterina Popa pointed out the Institute’s experiences and efforts in order to facilitate women’s access to justice on both dimensions of the initial training of candidates to the positions of judge and prosecutor, as well as on the ongoing training of in service judges and prosecutors.
During the launch of the report ‘Impact of COVID-19 on women’s access to justice’, were presented and debated conclusions and modalities to address persistent and emerging challenges for Council of Europe Member States in ensuring equal access to justice for women and men, even in times of crisis.
At the same time, was touched the topic on the state of implementation at national level, of the Council of Europe Strategy on Gender Equality 2018-2023.
Both events were organized by the European Union and the Council of Europe Joint Program for good Governance II “Women’s access to Justice: Implementation of the Istanbul Convention and European standards on Gender Equality in the Eastern Partnership countries”.
