The trainees of the 13th promotion, candidates to the positions of judge and prosecutor, participated on Monday, August 3, and on Wednesday, August 5, in the online summer school "Ethics and deontology of a judge/prosecutor".
Mentioning the importance of the event, Ecaterina Popa, head of the Training and Research Department of the National Institute of Justice, and Katya Dormisheva, judicial expert of the European Union, team leader, greeted the participants.
The summer school was conceptualized in two training sessions - theoretical and practical - conducted separately according to the specialization of the trainees. Thus, on the first day, the candidates to the position of judge were trained by Victoria Sanduta, judge, and Cristina Tarna, lawyer, on various topics such as the ethics and deontology of judges, the relevant international standards, the integrity guide, the freedom of expression and the use of social platforms. At the same time, the candidates to the position of prosecutor were guided by Alexandru Nichita, prosecutor, who spoke about the system of disciplinary liability of prosecutors, self-administration bodies of the prosecutor’s offices, the College of Discipline and Ethics, the consequences of disciplinary sanctions and the rights and obligations of the Inspection of prosecutors.
Subsequently, the trainees were assigned roles in the simulated trials, that took place based on four scenarios prepared for judges and four - for prosecutors. The second day was entirely dedicated for trial simulations, and at the end, the trainers came with feedback and conclusions about the performance of the future judges and prosecutors.
The training activity is part of the Plan of initial training for candidates to the positions of judge and prosecutor, being organized by the National Institute of Justice within the European Union project "Support to efficient prevention and fight against corruption in the justice sector”.
