At the National Institute of Justice, between November 6-9, 2023, is carried out the continuous training course entitled "Online cybercrime investigation". The seminar is organized as part of the Criminal Justice Reform and Anti-Corruption Support Program, implemented by ABA ROLI Moldova, with the financial support of the Office for Combating Drug Trafficking and Law Enforcement of the US State Department. Among the beneficiaries of the training are prosecutors from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, as well as prosecution and investigation officers from the National Anti-Corruption Center, the National Investigation Inspectorate and the Prevention and Combating of Money Laundering Service.
The event was opened by Ecaterina Popa, ad interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, Halyna Senyk, Senior Program Adviser, CEELI Institute, Kevin Lanigan, Senior Adviser in the field of justice within the Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Section, US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, and Mihaela Vidaicu, Director of ABA ROLI Moldova.
The training sessions are facilitated by experts from the CEELI Institute in Prague: Sheri Dunlop, Karen Greenaway, Jan Trmal, Daniel Garnham and Walter Woosley. For four days, topics will be addressed regarding how to carry out online investigations. Thus, participants will be acquainted with the basics of working in an online environment, special techniques used in cryptocurrency investigations and online investigations, collection and preservation of digital evidence, etc. They will also be involved in performing practical exercises and analyzing case studies.
Course „Online cybercrime investigations” is in line with the objectives set out in national policy documents, including in „The information security strategy of the Republic of Moldova for the 2019-2024” and in „National program for the recovery of criminal goods for the 2023-2027”.
