On the European Day of Justice, October 25, the students of law faculties visited the National Institute of Justice in order to participate in a public event ”Access on legal information and the prospects for the professions of judge and prosecutor in the context of reforms”.
Host of the event, Mrs. Ecaterina POPA, NIJ ad interim Director, welcomed 30 young lawyers from the International Free University of Moldova and from the State University of Moldova – members of the non-governmental organization ELSA (European Law Student`s Association).
Visitors discussed with the NIJ trainers, partners and representatives of the national legal system: Vitalie STRATAN, member of the NIJ Board, judge at the Chisinau Court, Natalia VILCU, the Director of the USAID Model Court Project, Victoria PALANCIUC, CEPEJ expert in the Republic of Moldova, Tatiana CIAGLIC, ad interim Head of the Legal Information Center of the NIJ, Lilia RUSU, Head of the Department for analysis, monitoring and evaluation of policies of the Ministry of Justice, Oleg ROTARI, certified HELP tutor, former Government Agent at the ECtHR and Nicoleta NICOLAEV, NIJ graduate. Thus, the young lawyers learned about all online resources and the digitalization of the legal system, the reforms of legal sector and about the impact on the judge profession, the mission of the European Commission for the efficiency of justice (CEPEJ) and transformation of courts to offer more friendly services to litigants, the NIJ competences and the accession to the positions of judge and prosecutor.
Also, the students took part at the electronical course presentation developed by the HELP program and institutionalized by the NIJ in the initial training process ,,Introduction to the ECHR and the ECtHR”. For those interested, were created accounts to have the possibility to pass the training modules, and participants who will pass the final test will be certified by the National Institute of Justice.
Every year on October, 25 is celebrated European Day of Justice, that was established on June 5, 2003, by the Council of Europe and European Union, aimed to bring in the citizens attention the way of justice functioning and to support the development of the common European justice space.
