Trainers of the National Institute of Justice attended a training course in the field of European Union law on October 24-25, 2024. Organized in partnership with the joint EU-CoE project "Support for Justice Reform in the Republic of Moldova", the activity is a fundamental step in the process of aligning the Judicial Training content to European standards.
"The European dimension of judicial training is no longer just an additional component, but is becoming a central element of professional training in the field of justice. Consequently, it is necessary to introduce and strengthen a module on European Union law for the beneficiaries of the National Institute of Justice," said the Ad interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, Adrian Cerbu, at the opening of the event.
The Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, Falk Lange, said: "The aspirations of the Republic of Moldova are very clear, but at the same time, their achievement requires a long-term process with responsibilities and challenges, involving all state institutions, including the correct application of EU law by judges and prosecutors. In this context, the EU law training course is very important and timely for the Republic of Moldova."
The training sessions were facilitated by Razvan Horatiu Radu, prosecutor at the High Court of Cassation and Justice in Bucharest, trainer of the National Institute of Magistracy of Romania.
For two days, participants deepened their knowledge of the institutions and decision-making process at EU level, the rule of law in the European area, judicial cooperation mechanisms in criminal matters, etc. Particular attention was paid to the organization and functioning of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), the relationship between the CJEU and national courts, as well as the complementarity between the CJEU and the European Court of Human Rights.
