On the afternoon of Thursday, November 9, 2023, the ad Interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, Ecaterina Popa, met together in a meeting with the members of the Competition and trainers evaluation Commission. The meeting was also attended by ABAROLI experts, trainers of the National Institute of Magistracy in Romania – Tamara Manea, former prosecutor, former member of the Judicial Inspection, and Nicolae-Horatius Dumbrava, judge at the Targu Mures Court of Appeal, former member of the Superior Council of Magistracy.
The main topics of discussion included the exercises of complex professional evaluation and completion of the NIJ Trainers Network, according to the new Trainer's Statute. The procedures were recently launched as one of the priorities of the National Institute of Justice, reaffirming its commitment to review internal policies for selecting trainers according to appropriate professional training and high moral values.
During the meeting, the collaboration of the National Institute of Justice with the Ministry of Justice and development partners was mentioned in order to uniformly interpret the selection criteria for NIJ trainers, thus strengthening the effectiveness and transparency of the started process. Contextually, were comprehensively addressed the criteria aimed at the impeccable reputation in the field of activity and integrity as essential elements of the evaluation/recruitment of trainers. At the same time, the importance of identifying objective indicators to underpin the fulfillment of these criteria and the need to develop effective methodologies to optimize the selection of trainers was emphasized.
The invited experts also referred to the practice in Romania on the given segment. This change of perspective provided participants with the opportunity to better understand the diversity of approaches and to continuously improve training and evaluation processes given the imperatives of European integration.
