The National Institute of Justice joins the international campaign "16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence", initiated by the Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991 to promote the elimination of all forms of violence against women. Domestic violence is a much more widespread phenomenon than surveys show, as some cases are not even reported. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, last year, 69.2% of victims of domestic violence in the Republic of Moldova were women.
In order to combat this major problem which society is facing, the NIJ has proposed to carry out several actions. Therefore, in partnership with the Women's Law Center and with the support of the Swedish Government, will be organised online training sessions on "Judicial Practice on the Examination of Cases of Domestic Violence". Around 70 legal assistants, clerks, consultants of prosecutors are going to be acquainted with various aspects of this phenomenon, at the trainings being addressed several topics from both psychological and legal perspective.
Also, the participants will watch an educational film on domestic violence, made by the National Institute of Justice and the Women's Law Center with the financial support of the US Embassy in Moldova, in the framework of the project "Strengthening capacities of Prosecution and Judicial Response to Domestic Violence in Moldova”.
We remind you that "16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence" is an international campaign that begins annually on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on December 10, the International Day of Human Rights. During this period, various actions are taking place around the world to inform the public about gender-based violence.
