On Monday, June 24, 2024, in Ankara, was concluded a Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Institute of Justice of the Republic of Moldova and the Justice Academy of the Republic of Turkey. The document is an important step in strengthening bilateral relations in the legal sector and, in particular, in legal training, being an opportunity for parties to benefit from exchange of knowledge and best practices.
The Memorandum of Cooperation, signed by Adrian Cerbu, Ad Interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, and Muhittin Özdemir, President of the Justice Academy, establishes forms of collaboration on the professional training of judges, prosecutors, trainees, legal assistants and prosecutor's consultants from both countries. The signatories have made several commitments, including the organization of joint legal training programs, the transfer of expertise, the development of digital platforms for e-learning, the development of educational, methodological and practical materials etc.
The signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation takes place in the context of the visit of the delegation of the National Institute of Justice in Ankara, during June 24-27, 2024 to participate in a Training Program on Combating Cybercrime. The delegation includes Adrian Cerbu, Ad Interim Director, Ecaterina Popa, Head of the training and research Department, Olga Marandici, Head of the international relations Section, Ghenadie Mira, Interim President of the Chisinau Court of Appeal, member of the NIJ Council, and Mihail Ivanov, liaison prosecutor at the EU Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust). The training sessions aim at strengthening the knowledge on the international regulatory framework in the field, analyzing current cases of cybercrime, familiarizing with techniques of collecting electronic evidence in the investigation of such crimes etc.
The NIJ delegation will also carry out working visits to the Ministry of Justice, the Superior Council of Judges and Prosecutors, the Court of Cassation and the Constitutional Court of Ankara.
The visit of the NIJ representatives to Ankara was possible thanks to the USAID Justice Reform and Anti-corruption Project (JARA) and the Academy of Justice of the Republic of Turkey.
