On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, the new French liaison magistrate with responsibilities for the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Bulgaria, Simona Pavel visited the National Institute of Justice. She has recently assumed her position and made her first visit to the Institute.
On this occasion, the Interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, Ecaterina Popa, wished her success in fulfilling her mandate and expressed appreciation for the good collaboration with the Liaison Magistrate Service. Also, Ecaterina Popa noted the enhanced level of bilateral cooperation in recent years and she reviewed initiatives that have impacted the professional training of beneficiaries of the National Institute of Justice which include: study visits to the European Court of Human Rights and French courts for both NIJ trainees and serving judges, along with training programs focusing on the effective management of courts and prosecution offices, as well as expertise in the field of financial fraud.
Additionally, discussions covered perspectives on the mobility of future and current judges and prosecutors, as well as matters related to providing expertise in the areas of European Union acquis transposition, the rule of law, combating organized crime, and the ethics of magistrates, among others.
At the end of the meeting, both parties expressed a shared interest in enhancing the existing partnership and developing initiatives for the judicial training of representatives in the justice sector in the Republic of Moldova. Furthermore, Cezara-Elena Polisca, the head of the Trainer of Training and Didactics Methodological Unit, and Ioana Chiurlea, the assistant to the liaison magistrate, were also present at the meeting.
