The National Institute of Justice was visited on February 19, 2024, by Gabriela Scutea, EU High Legal Adviser on Justice and Prosecution at the Ministry of Justice, to discuss with Ecaterina Popa, ad Interim Director of the NIJ.
The dialogue was mainly focused on identifying opportunities for collaboration with relevant institutions in Romania within the projects financed through the Justice Programme of the European Commission, which will contribute to the effective and coherent application of the acquis communautaire in criminal matters. At the same time, was highlighted the potential of European projects to strengthen national capacities and promote good practices in view of the integration of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
Contextually, topics related to cross-border cooperation on the professional training of NIJ beneficiaries, especially the prosecutors in charge were discussed, as well as the possibility of sustaining a public lesson by Gabriela Scutea, former Prosecutor General of Romania (2020-2023) in front of the NIJ trainees. It was also analyzed the opportunity of organizing a joint activity in Chisinau for NIJ –NIM (auditors and practice guides), through the support of the EU High Legal Advisers Mission to the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, training materials were presented, available in Romanian, focusing on judicial cooperation in criminal matters.
The meeting was also attended by Olga Marandici, adviser to the Director of the NIJ, head of the International Relations Section, and Marina Zarija, assistant of the EU High Level Adviser on Justice and Prosecution.
The mission of the EU High Councilors in the Republic of Moldova is a project funded by the European Union with a two-year implementation period, from January 2023 to January 2025. Its main objective is to provide support to Moldovan authorities in implementing the reform agenda and, in particular, in developing the necessary capacities for the implementation of the Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, as well as assistance for the EU accession negotiation process.
The European Union High-Level Advisers’ Mission in the Republic of Moldova is a project funded by the European Union with a two-year implementation period, from January 2023 until January 2025. Its overall objective is to support the Moldovan authorities in the implementation of the reform agenda and in particular, in developing the capacities required for the implementation of the Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, as well as assist towards the EU Accession negotiation process.
