Increasing the capacity of the National Institute of Justice to incorporate the concepts of research, reasoning and legal writing in the training of justice professionals is one of the components of the project "Support for justice sector reform in Moldova", implemented by the United Nations Development Program, with the assistance of the US Government. In this regard, has been made a report with the title "Judgement-drafting and Training on Legal Writing in the Republic of Moldova", that was launched on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, in videoconference.
In the opening of the event, Diana Scobioala, the Director of the National Institute of Justice, noted that, although 2020 is the date of editing the report, it was developed in 2018, based on interviews and data from the 2017-2018 promotions, and since then things have evolved essentially. "This report was a significant source in the elaboration, promotion and calibration of the Institute's reform, especially in the process of implementing the methodology for conducting process simulations."
The report, elaborated by Holger Hembach, lawyer, UNDP Moldova expert, presents an assessment of current practices in the field of legal writing, including the shortcomings identified. At the same time, the study refers to the way in which the drafting of legal texts is taught within the National Institute of Justice and comes with a set of recommendations for improving the training provided to NIJ beneficiaries in order to develop skills they will need in the exercise of their duties of judges or prosecutors.
