The director of the National Institute of Justice, Diana Scobioala, and the head of the Training and Research Department, Ecaterina Popa, participated in the launch event of the project "Green justice for a protected environment and sustainable communities in the Republic of Moldova", implemented by PA EcoContact with financial support of Sweden.
In her speech, Diana Scobioala emphasized the importance and necessity to include in the NIJ continuous training programme a module regarding the application of the environmental legal regulatory framework. Thus, in the last two years, 13 activities have been carried out related to the particularities of examining files in the field of subsoil, vegetable kingdom and water management, being trained 246 persons (judges, prosecutors, legal assistants, clerks, etc.).
The NIJ Director also appreciated the excellent collaboration with EcoContact in piloting a new HELP course "Environment and Human Rights", which provides participants with the necessary knowledge on how human rights and Council of Europe tools can be used to achieve effective environmental protection. The course, recently launched, will be institutionalized by the NIJ next year.
The project "A green justice for a protected environment and sustainable communities in the Republic of Moldova", with an implementation period of four years, addresses specific target groups, consisting of various government actors or society, to improve the legal and institutional framework on environmental governance and justice.
