Between December 1-2, 2023, in Tashkent and Samarkand, Uzbekistan, took place the international conference "Legal Education and Research in Upholding the Rule of Law: Current Trends and Future Directions". Organized on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the event brought together representatives of the law sector, academics, researchers, experts from Asia and Europe (China, France, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Portugal, Sweden, USA, Turkey, etc.). From the National Institute of Justice were present Ecaterina Popa, ad interim Director, and Olga Marandici, advisor to the NIJ Director, head of the International Relations Section.
In her presentation, Ecaterina Popa shared the experience of the Institute in the process of training professionals in the justice sector of the Republic of Moldova on the four dimensions: initial training, continuous training, training of trainers and e-learning. The ad interim director of the NIJ referred, in particular, to the electronic admission and integration of mock trial activities in the initial training programme of future judges and prosecutors, as well as, continuous training of NIJ beneficiaries according to modular plans covering various legal and non-legal topics, good practices in adapting and institutionalizing with major impact of HELP e-courses, and, as well as the importance of establishing partnerships with magistracy schools in Central Asia and Europe.
International conference "Legal Education and Research in Upholding the Rule of Law: Current Trends and Future Directions" aimed at creating a platform for discussion about innovative approaches in the educational process and achieving the exchange of experience in training professionals in the field.
Also, during the visit, the ad Interim Director of the NIJ had a meeting with Evgeniy Kolenko, first Deputy of the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on which were discussed the cooperation directions on judicial training of beneficiaries of both institutions, including on the scientific research segment. Also the importance of cooperation in joint projects for strengthening the professional skills of law sector representatives from the two countries was stressed.
The participation of the representatives of the NIJ at the conference was possible thanks to the joint programme between the European Union and the Council of Europe entitled „Rule of law in Central Asia”.
