Future judges and prosecutors, as well as in service judges, prosecutors and lawyers have been involved in a mock trial with the theme ,,The state's response to Trafficking in human beings cases, from the perspective of equity, efficiency and centering”. The event took place at the NIJ, during October 24-26, 2022 and was opened by the Ecaterina POPA, ad interim Director of NIJ and Natalia NICULA, national coordinator at the UNODC Moldova.
The activity was divided into two parts: one theoretical and the other one practical, being sustained by the NIJ` trainers: Arina Țurcan-Donțu, lawyer and Vitalie Budeci, judge at the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters.
On the first day the participants were familiar with the legal and institutional framework on preventing and combating trafficking in human beings, the trends in the evolution of the THB phenomenon, the legal qualification of criminal actions, the psychological manipulation and psycho-social profile of THB victims etc. The next two days, the beneficiaries of the training sessions applied the new knowledge through practical exercises to simulate a case of human trafficking. Therefore, the trainees were trained in the preparation of the indictment, the drafting of the acts for the transmission of the case to court, a THB mock trial, drafting of the pleadings, the sentencing etc.
The mock trial was organized by the National Institute of Justice in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) project „Unlocking the impunity of traffickers and supporting justice for victims of human trafficking in South-Eastern Europe (SEE)”.
