The trainees of the National Institute of Justice, candidates to the position of judge and prosecutor, participated on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at a public lesson organized with the support of ABA ROLI Moldova.
The discussions were conducted by the representatives of the United States law system, former federal judges Lynne Lasry and Michael Johnson, as well as the lawyers Allen Snyder and James Gailey.
At the event, speakers told about the topic of cross-examination of witnesses during the trial, including the concept of "looping" (repeating the questions with the purpose of highlighting the strengths of the statements submitted for position consolidation in the judicial trial), also have been illustrated hearing techniques and case studies. At the same time, controversies were brought to light and a parallel was made with the exigencies of the Moldovan legislation.
Following the question-answer round, the trainees were particularly interested in the hearing procedure of the witness in US courts, where the cross-examination technique is the basis for confirming or invalidating the evidence gathered at the preliminary investigation stage.
