On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, H.E. Paul Graham, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the French Republic to the Republic of Moldova, held a public lesson „European construction”, for future judges and prosecutors at the National Institute of Justice. The event represented an opportunity for the NIJ's trainees to better understand the European construction process and the role that each country has in this context.
H.E. Graham Paul shared his extensive knowledge and experience, providing a broad and comprehensive perspective on the evolution and consolidation of the European Union. In his speech, His Excellency stressed the importance of collaboration and solidarity between the EU member states and highlighted the support given by the French state in the process of our country's accession to the common European project.
During the event, a constructive dialogue was also initiated, being discussed many current issues, such as the European commitment to EU enlargement and the ability to take on new members, including the Republic of Moldova; the role of the NIJ trainees as agents of changing the justice system in the spirit of European values; the supremacy of the community law over domestic law; the viability of the desideratum of Moldova's integration into the European Union by 2030, etc.
The public lesson was preceded by bilateral dialogue between His Excellency Graham Paul and the ad interim Director of the NIJ, Ecaterina Popa. The discussions highlighted aspects related to the cooperation between the Embassy of the French Republic in the Republic of Moldova, including the Service of the French liaison magistrate with competences for Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria, as well, and the National Institute of Justice on legal training and promotion of European standards among NIJ beneficiaries.
