On October 9, 2018 the distance learning course of the European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals of the Council of Europe, “Aspects of Combating Discrimination” was launched. The first to benefit from the updated version of the course are the representatives of the Moldovan law system.
At the event, Ana Medarska-Lazova, HELP Project Officer, Ivana Roagna, international expert and national supervisors Olga Dorul, doctor in Law, NIJ trainer and Dumitru Sliusarenco, lawyer, talked about the basic notions and the current challenges of combating discrimination, national adaptation of the course, how the HELP platform works, etc.
The new course, with a duration of 20 hours of training, is intended for judges, court assistants, court clerks and lawyers who provide state-guaranteed legal assistance. The online course will take place on the HELP Platform, from 9 October to 30 October, 2018 and aims to familiarize participants with new trends in the prohibition of discrimination in the European Convention on Human Rights. Following the five modules of the course, the participants will develop their knowledge and skills on the conventional stipulations in the field of non-discrimination, will be able to correctly apply the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights in cases of discrimination based on race, color, language, national or social origin, belonging to a national minority, on wealth or birth; in situations of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as in the case of discrimination on the grounds of disability. After passing the final test, the trainees will be certified by the Council of Europe.
The activity is part of the Council of Europe's project "Supporting National Efforts to Prevent and Combat Discrimination in Moldova", funded by the European Union, being the fifth course organized by the HELP Program in partnership with the National Institute of Justice.
