On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the National Institute of Justice, took place the bilateral meeting between the Ad interim Director, Adrian Cerbu, and Lilja Grétarsdóttir, Head of Cooperation Programmes of the General Directorate for Human Rights of the Council of Europe.
The discussions focused on the challenges faced by the National Institute of Justice in the field of judicial training in migration and asylum, as well as the priorities outlined in this context.
The Ad interim Director of the NIJ stressed the importance of the collaboration and support provided by the Council of Europe, including through the project „Strengthening the human rights protection of refugees and migrants in the Republic of Moldova”, in order to effectively address the complex problems existing on this dimension. At the same time, the significant contribution of the Council of Europe to the organization of the study visit of the NIJ delegation in Malta, to the Judicial Studies Committee and to the European Union Agency for Asylum, was highlighted, which aimed to initiate an exchange of experiences and best practices, mainly in the field of migration and asylum.
At the meeting were discussed the possibilities of strengthening the partnership that had a positive dynamics thanks to the current projects of the Council of Europe, as well as in the future, under the next CoE Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova.
The meeting was attended by Ecaterina Popa, Head of the Training and Research Department, Olga Marandici, advisor to the Director of the NIJ, Head of the International Relations Section, and Tatiana Bedros, senior coordinator of CoE „Strengthening the human rights protection of refugees and migrants in the Republic of Moldova”.
