On Wednesday, January 16, 2019, the Director of the National Institute of Justice, Diana Scobioala, had a meeting with William Massolin, the Head of the Council of Europe's Office in Moldova. He joined the office on October 1, 2018, this being his first visit to the Institute.
At the meeting, the discussions were focused on the issues of cooperation in the field of training for the representatives of the judiciary of the Republic of Moldova. The two sides pointed out that the relations between the NIJ and the CoE have a dynamic development in recent years and emphasized the importance of continuing the established partnership. In this context, Diana Scobioala reiterated that the Council of Europe is a key partner of the National Institute of Justice right from the foundation of the institution, and joint training activities, as well as distance learning through the HELP Program intended for NIJ beneficiaries, have a positive impact for their professional development.
During the meeting, were also discussed issues related to the organization of a conference on the applicability of the Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights (Right to liberty and security) at national level, involving legal professionals and representatives of the Eastern Partnership magistracy schools. Another topic under discussion was the joint deployment of eventual actions dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe.
The meeting was also attended by Dumitru Obada, Advisor to the Director, and Alexandra Nica, Head of the Training and Research Department of the NIJ.
