On Tuesday, November 22, 2022, the ad interim director Ecaterina Popa, has received on visit Marta Becerra, Head of Unit of the Council of Europe - capacity building and co-operation projects, Gender Equality Division, Human Dignity and Gender Equality Department, Directorate of Human Dignity, Equality and Governance, Directorate General of Democracy and Human Dignity. The lady is in Chisinau these days in the context of organizing the meeting of the Steering Committee for monitoring the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova, 2021-2024.
The meeting was also attended by Cezara-Elena Polisca, advisor to the NIJ Director, Head of the didactical-methodology and Training of Trainers Section.
During the meeting, the emphasis was placed on the implementation of the project “Support in the implementation of the Istanbul Convention in the Republic of Moldova”, launched this spring by the Council of Europe, in partnership with the National Institute of Justice, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and which will continue under the aegis of the Partnership for good Governance III.
Ecaterina Popa mentioned, during the discussions, about the importance that the Institute assigns to the strengthening of the professional capacities of its beneficiaries through the Istanbul Convention. Thus, various actions take place, including the national tutoring of the HELP course “Violence against women and domestic violence”, the national competition of fine arts “Generation of Equality”, organized by NIJ and the School of Fine Arts “A. Şciusev”, public lessons for children participating in the competition and the NIJ trainees, as well as continuous training activities in the field.
Marta Becerra appreciated the NIJ’s efforts in promoting and raising awareness among young generations on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. The Parties also established convergence lines and new opportunities for collaboration on issues of common interest in the national implementation of the Istanbul Convention.
