The Director of the National Institute of Justice, Diana Scobioala, has met with Anca Sandescu, manager of the project "Women's Access to Justice: implementation of the Istanbul Convention and other European Standards for Gender Equality" on Tuesday, March 5, 2019.
During the meeting, the discussions were focused on the collaboration of the Council of Europe and of the European Union with the National Institute of Justice in the frame of the project on access to justice for women victims from the six Eastern Partnership countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The new project foresees a three-year plan of activities (2019-2021) intended to strengthen the capacity of judicial systems to ensure access to justice for women, in line with the CoE Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.
In this context, Anca Sandescu presented the second phase of the project, which is aimed at introducing measures to ensure awareness of the whole system of justice towards the gender dimension and the application of the new competences on standards of access to justice in line with the Istanbul Convention.
The project partners include the National Institute of Justice of the Republic of Moldova, the Academy of Justice of Armenia, the Academy of Justice of Azerbaijan, the National Institute for the Qualification of Judges, Prosecutors and Legal professionals of Belarus, the High School of Justice of Georgia, the General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, the National School of Judges of Ukraine and the National Academy of Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine.
The implementation of the project aims at signing/ratifying the Istanbul Convention in line with the European Union's 2020 objectives.
