Two postage stamps, the envelope “first day cover” and special stamps “Drawings of children” and “75 years since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights” were released on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the National Institute of Justice. The project was carried out in partnership with the state-owned enterprise “Posta Moldovei” within the UN global campaign dedicated to the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and aims to promote the fundamental values of human rights. The philatelic shows are based on the drawings of children from the national fine arts competition with topics in the field of justice organized by the National Institute of Justice and the School of fine arts „Alexei Sciusev” in collaboration the Council of Europe and the Law Centre of Lawyers.
The event was attended by institutional and development partners of NIJ, children whose drawings served as prototypes for the respective series of stamps, students of the Theoretical High School “Orizont”, Buiucani branch, teachers, representatives and trainees of NIJ, etc.
“Young artists brought to the fore unique and sensitive perspectives on legal topics, giving us, adults, an opportunity to be part of their imagination and their worldview. Through postage stamps, children become ambassadors of human rights and remind us that we have to listen the voice of the young generation, protect their rights and encourage critical thinking in relation to topics of global importance”, declared in the opening Ecaterina Popa, the ad interim Director of the National Institute of justice.
During the launch also spoke Violeta Cojocaru, ad Interim Administrator of the state-owned enterprise “Moldova Post”, Falk Lange, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, Bea Ferenci, Head of the UN Office for Human Rights in Moldova, Oxana Gumennaia, Deputy Ombudsman, and Oleg Palii, Executive Director of the Law Centre of Lawyers. Their messages reflected multiple aspects of the context and emphasized the relevance of collaboration, creativity and legal education in promoting human rights. The students, whose drawings were selected, were also invited to share their impressions and inspiration behind their works.
The postage stamps based on the drawings: "Vama Palanca, 2022", by Marius Nenescu, 16 years old, and “Generatia Egalitatii a diverselor popoare”, by Bianca Bandalac, 13 years old, were printed in a print run of 100,000 copies each. On the "first day cover" envelope, stamped with the "first day" stamp, are the stamps of the show and two drawings by the students Loredana Temciuc, 15 years old, and Ariadna Raileanu, 15 years old.
The print run of the "first day cover" envelope is 200 copies. The state-owned enterprise “Moldova Post” also created a special stamp to mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
At the end of the event, all those who wished applied the special stamps on the entire post office made on this occasion.
