Diversity, solidarity and European spirit were the key words at the finalist award ceremony of the National Fine Arts Competition „My home is your home: Together in safety”, 4th edition It was organized by the National Institute of Justice and the School of Fine Arts „Alexei Sciusev”, in partnership with the Council of Europe project “Strengthening the protection of the human rights of refugees and migrants in the Republic of Moldova”, and the Law Centre of Lawyers.
The award event took place on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the National Institute of Justice, and the most talented and creative students from the Republic of Moldova have collected the prizes of the contest that was attended by 192 works of young people, aged between 11 to 21 from general schools, gymnasiums, high schools, arts schools, centers of excellence and arts colleges all over the country.
„Through this contest, we aim to draw attention to the situation of refugees and to promote a culture of tolerance, safety and mutual respect among children and young people, to develop empathy and to provide a clearer picture of the needs of migrants. We are proud to tell you that your work has far exceeded our expectations. The creations are full of color, emotion and creative force, each work being a unique expression of your vision on the topic addressed”, said Ecaterina Popa, ad interim director of the National Institute of Justice.
In her turn, the ad interim Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, Giulia Re, mentioned the following: „Recent statistics show that there are more than 100 thousand refugees hosted today in Moldova, 47 thousand of whom are minors from Ukraine. All these people need food, shelter, access to primary and emergency medical services, schools, kindergartens, and much more. The number of children enrolled in the competition speaks of their kindness, thoughtfulness, and desire to help others in need. These young artists demonstrated a good understanding of the needs for the safety and of the rights of refugees and migrants”.
At the festivity, the winners were also congratulated by Jana Costachi, State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Olimpiada Spatari-Arbuz, director of the School of Fine Arts „A. Șciusev”, Oleg Palii, Executive Director of the Law Center of lawyers, and Valeriu Herta, Member of the Jury, President of the Dacia calligraphy Association, University lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, „Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University.
At the evaluation of the fine arts works, the jury of representatives of the Union of Plastic Artists of the Republic of Moldova, of the State Pedagogical University „Ion Creangă”, of the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts, of the National Institute of Justice and of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, they took into account the realization of the work according to the generic of the competition, the originality of the idea, creativity and application of artistic techniques, being designated winners for three age categories:
first category (11-14 years):
1st place – Daria BEJAN, 13 years old, School of Fine Arts „Alexei Sciusev”;
2nd place – Doina SANDULEAC, 12 years old, School of Arts „Valeriu Poleakov”;
2nd place – Damian GHIMPU, 14 years old, School of Fine Arts for children, Balti,
3rd place – Bianca BANDALAC, 14 years old, School of Fine Arts „Alexei Sciusev”;
3rd place – Mihaela CHIRIAC, 14 years, School of Arts, Cosnita,
second category (15-17 years):
1st place – Victoria FORTUNA, 15 years, School of Fine Arts „Alexei Sciusev”;
2nd place – Alexandrina ROSCA, 15 years old, School of Fine Arts „Alexei Sciusev”;
3rd place – Marius NENESCU, 16 years old, School of Fine Arts „Alexei Sciusev”;
third category (18-21 years):
2nd place – Alexandru LACHI, 18 years, School of Fine Arts, Soldanesti.
Special prizes were also awarded during the event: the Special Prize of the National Institute of Justice was awarded to Tatiana MOCANU, 17 years, the creation Center „Luceafarul”, Cahul, and the Special Prize of the Council of Europe – to Alea CORCODEL, 12 years, the School of Fine Arts „Nicolae Moisei”, Telenesti. As a sign of appreciation of the skills manifested in the compositions of the competition, merit diploma were awarded to other 12 competitors.
The National Fine Arts Competition entitled „My home is your home: Together in safety” was held between February and May 2023. The action is part of the series of activities carried out under the Cooperation Agreement signed by the National Institute of Justice and the School of Fine Arts „Alexei Sciusev”. Thus, within the established partnership, several exhibitions of drawings and three editions of the national contest of fine arts were organized: „Justice – I see you like this” (2017), „Children’s Rights” (2021) and „Generation of Equality” (2022).
