The purpose of meeting of the delegation from US Department of Commerce (Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP)) and the State Agency for Intellectual Property (AGEPI) with the representatives of the National Institute of Justice was to identify the priority areas that will contribute to the multilateral development of the Republic of Moldova, including the perspective of implementing activities in the field of intellectual property protection with a focus on the role of courts in this process. The event took place Wednesday, 22 June 2022, at the National Institute of Justice.
The American delegation included Drew Roberts, legal counsel, Shaya Tavaf, legal counsel, and Dane Steeves, program specialist, assisted by Iurie Tabuncic, economic assistant at the US Embassy in Moldova, and Otilia Bologan-Vieru, USAID legal program specialist. On behalf of the National Institute of Justice, the meeting was attended by Ecaterina Popa, ad interim Director, and Marina Leu, interim head of the Continuing Training Section, as well as the representatives of AGEPI - the institutional partner of NIJ on this segment: Andrei Moisei, NIJ trainer, consultant in the Communication and Training Section, and Victoria Pleşca, Deputy Head of the Communication and International Relations Department.
The meeting raised topics of common interest related to ensuring quality training and exchanges of experience in the field of intellectual property, as well as the need to organize activities for professionals and training of trainers, thematic schools and study visits to continue the upward trajectory in the field of protection of intellectual property rights.
The CLDP program is a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce that provides intergovernmental technical assistance by involving experienced legislators, judges, decision makers, business leaders, and lawyers from both, public and private sectors.
