A Memorandum of Understanding on establishing a bilateral cooperation framework was signed between the National Institute of Justice and the American Bar Association on behalf of its Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI).
The document signing procedure between Ecaterina Popa, Ad interim Director of the NIJ, and Mihaela Vidaicu, Director of ABA ROLI Moldova, took place on Thursday, 17 March 2022, at the Institute.
The Memorandum creates premises for developing specific activities to be implemented in a spirit of cooperation and common commitment to support the continued development of the justice system and professionals from this field, as well as for strengthening targeted anti-corruption efforts, particularly through organizing training activities on corruption crimes investigation.
Due to the fact that the NIJ is an institution which carries out the initial training of future judges and prosecutors, as well as the continuous training of representatives of the justice system, and ABA ROLI is an international development program that promotes the rule of law, the signing of this Memorandum emerges from the imperative to enhance the cooperation and mutual assistance relations in promoting a qualitative judicial education via an interprofessional dialogue – an objective also outlined both in the “Strategy for ensuring the independence and integrity of justice sector for 2022-2025” and in the “National Integrity and Anti-corruption Strategy for 2017-2023”.
