"Examination and settlement of electoral disputes by courts in the Republic of Moldova" was the subject of the seminar held online today, May 28, 2021, for judges specializing in administrative litigation at the Supreme Court of Justice and courts of appeal. The event was organized by the National Institute of Justice in partnership with the Council of Europe, the Central Electoral Commission and the Center for Continuous Training in the electoral field.
In her speech, the Director of the National Institute of Justice, Diana Scobioala, mentioned that electoral issues, including those related to hate speech and the inclusion of people with disabilities, are regularly on the agenda of trainings provided by the institution she leads. The cooperation between NIJ, CEC, CICDE and CoE has provided qualitative achievements in each electoral cycle in the Republic of Moldova in recent years. Thus, from 2018 until now, nine activities have been jointly organized and 238 beneficiaries have been trained.
Also speaking at the opening of the event were William Massolin, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, Maxim Lebedinschi, Secretary of the Central Electoral Commission and Doina Bordeianu, Director of the Center for Continuous Education in the electoral field.
The training session discussed European good practices in the field of examination and resolving the electoral disputes, electoral legislation, how to resolve and examine disputes by electoral bodies and courts, as well as ways to abusively combat administrative resources during the election period.
This activity is part of the Action Plan of the Council of Europe Project “Improving Electoral Practices in the Republic of Moldova”.
