The second edition of the Republican Children's Art Competition "Children's Rights" ended on the eve of International Children's Day with the awarding of the winners.
The special prize from the National Institute of Justice went to Varvara Jarenova, 14, from the School of Fine Arts "Alexei Sciusev", who participated in the contest with the work "Detskii dom" (The orphanage) suggesting that every child has the right to grow up in a favourable family environment, including those left without parental protection and institutionalized.
During the awards ceremony, Diana Scobioala, Director of the National Institute of Justice, mentioned that: "The work seems to have been made for this institution, because in the interwar period, in this building there was an orphanage for children, and this painting signifies what was and is NIJ - a training school in which much love was given to children ”.
Over time, the building where the National Institute of Justice is located has served as the headquarters of school no. 1 for boys, of school no. 5 for girls, as well as the "Queen Maria" Children's Home, which has become a model orphanage for the whole country. Following the 1938 visit of the Special Commission of the League of Nations, Maria Montessori, the head of the delegation, proposed that the experience of this orphanage be presented at a special congress in Rome. The theses of the report, presented at the congress by Alexandra Remencu, the director of the orphanage, were included, in the final stage, as recommendations.
