Non-discrimination and equality was the subject of the webinar that took place on Thursday, April 30, 2020, and which brought together judicial assistants, clerks and prosecutor’s consultants.
The continuous training course was designed to increase the participants’ knowledge in the field of discrimination based on various criteria in accordance with the international legal framework and relevant case law; to analyze the compatibility of both the international and national provisions on fundamental rights and freedoms; to identify ways of sanctioning the acts of discrimination, etc.
The participants were trained online by Constantin Cojocarul, human rights lawyer, consultant to the Council of Europe. The topics addressed at the webinar regarded the rights of people with disabilities and gender equality in the light of international standards, in particular the Istanbul Convention and the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights. The practical part of the course included the analysis of case studies related to discrimination and gender equality.
The National Institute of Justice organized the training sessions in cooperation with the Joint European Union/Council of Europe “Partnership for Good Governance II”, within the framework of the national project “Strengthening the capacities of the justice sector actors to deliver justice in line with European standards, in particular to fight discrimination”.
