On Wednesday, March 6, 2019, the Director of the National Institute of Justice, Diana Scobioala, had a meeting with US Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Dereck J. Hogan, on the occasion of the launch of the course „Implementing the legislation on preventing and combating domestic violence”.
During the meeting, Diana Scobioala made a brief presentation of the institution focusing on method of admission to the NIJ, initial training of future judges and prosecutors and continuous training of acting judges and prosecutors. In this context, the NIJ Director appreciated the role and the contribution of the Government of the United States of America for the modernization of the building, including the design and reconstruction of trial simulation rooms, which currently benefit the trainees of the National Institute of Justice. At the same time, she emphasized the trainings carried out jointly with and their important role for the development of NIJ beneficiaries, especially for the resource group of young judges.
The US Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Dereck J. Hogan, also expressed his willingness to continue the collaboration between the US Embassy and the Institute in the field of judicial training. In this respect, His Excellency expressed his openness to provide the necessary assistance and support for the successful implementation of the reforms initiated by NIJ, which will contribute considerably to the quality of the trainings and, at the same time, to the efficiency of the justice act in the Republic of Moldova.
During the visit, the ambassador and the guests, guided by the host, made a tour of renovated rooms that were designed and repaired with the financial support of the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, through the UNDP project “Support to Justice Sector Reform”
The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Section of the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, Moldova: Timothy Buckley, Director, Mr. Kevin Lanigan, Senior Justice Advisor, Radu Foltea, Legal counselor, as well as Inga Fortună, seconded prosecutor, member of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors of Moldova, Valentina Conțescu, NIJ, and Dumitru Obadă, seconded prosecutor, NIJ.
