On December 13-14, 2018, representatives of several Moldovan state institutions went to a study visit in Lisbon, Portugal, for exchanging good practices in the field of compensation for victims of trafficking in human beings.
The National Institute of Justice was represented by Ecaterina Popa, Head of the Continuous training section, Andrei Cazacicov, candidate for the position of judge, and by the trainers - Maria Ghervas, Judge at the Supreme Court of Justice, and Viorel Ciobanu, Prosecutor in the Department for Combating trafficking in human beings within the General Prosecutor's Office.
The study visit has served as a platform for cooperation and sharing best practices that ensures the right of victims of human trafficking to compensation in countries such as Portugal, whose normative and institutional framework in this area is similar to that of the Republic of Moldova. Also, during the visit, there were discussed the possibilities of organizing training activities for the justice sector professionals on this segment.
The visit, organized in the context of facilitating the implementation of Law no. 137/2016 on the rehabilitation and compensation of victims of crime and the National Anti-Trafficking Strategy for the years 2018-2023, took place within the framework of the OSCE project "Strengthening the capacities of the law enforcement agencies in the field of combating trafficking in human beings".
