Between 15 and 21 October 2018, the trainees of the National Institute of Justice - Natalia Russu, candidate for the position of judge, and Radu Popa, candidate for the position of prosecutor, - participated to an internship in Strasbourg. It is the first time that NIJ trainees have been given the opportunity to know, from a first source, how the French courts work, in particular the Strasbourg Court of First Instance, thus contributing to their professional training according to European standards.
During the internship, the trainees got acquainted with the peculiarities of the French justice system, with procedural aspects in examining civil and criminal cases, by participating in several court hearings held in the Strasbourg Court of First Instance. Also, the trainees had the opportunity to go to the European Court of Human Rights and to attend the Grand Chamber hearing in the case of Strand Lobben and others v. Norway.
The internship program included a visit to the Council of Europe headquarters and a meeting with the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the Council of Europe, the Ambassador Corina Calugaru.
The internship in Strasbourg for the candidates for the position of judge and prosecutor was possible thanks to the support of the Embassy of France in the Republic of Moldova and is part of the actions set out in the Strategic Plan of the National Institute of Justice for the years 2017-2020.
