Mock trial at the National Institute of Justice: Best practices of state response to cases of violence

The trainees of the National Institute of Justice together with students from the State University of Moldova, the Police Academy "Stefan cel Mare" and the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts, simulated a criminal trial aimed at developing professional skills in dealing with cases of domestic violence and child sexual abuse.

The activity took place on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, and was opened by Ecaterina Popa, Head of the training and research Department of the National Institute of Justice, and Alina Savga, PhD in Law, lecturer at the State University of Moldova.

The students, guided by Arina Turcan, NIJ trainer, lawyer, and Eleonora Grosu, program director at the Women's Law Center, assumed the roles of judges, prosecutors and parties involved in the trial. The participants were trained in conducting the judicial investigation, drafting the pleadings and delivering the judgment.

The event was organized by the National Institute of Justice, the Criminal Law Department of the Law Faculty of the State University of Moldova and the Women's Law Centre and is a part of the international campaign 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence.
