On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Prosecutor General's Office, took place a meeting of the relevant stakeholders of the pilot project aimed at strengthening the capacities to investigate, prosecute and examine cases related to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear security (CBRN). The meeting was also attended by the Ad Interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, Adrian Cerbu. The new project will be fully funded by the European Commission under the European Union Initiative on CBRN Centres of Excellence and implemented by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).
Representatives of national institutions – Prosecutor General's Office, National Institute of Justice, National Agency for Regulation of Nuclear and Radiological Activity, General Inspectorate of Police, The Ministry of Justice – discussed with Talgat Toleubayev, regional coordinator for Southeast and Eastern Europe of the CBRN Program,.
The main themes approached included the objectives and the purpose of the project to improve the CBRN investigation, prosecution and examination skills, planning of the training sessions in order to increase the CBRN expertise of the NIJ beneficiaries and in particular prosecutors, the possibility of further integration in the Continuous Training Plan the specialized courses, also training of a group of trainers in the field, thus ensuring the multiplication of knowledge at national level, etc.
At the meeting, the parties reiterated the importance of strengthening national security and preparing the legal system to face the complex challenges in the CBRN field in the context of the implementation of the National Action Plan for the accession of the Republic of Moldova the European Union for 2024-2027.
