Wednesday, July 31, 2024, the National Institute of Justice was visited by UN Women Moldova deputy representative Svetlana Andries, and project officer, Iulia Gheorgies, to hold discussions with the Ad interim Director of the NIJ, Adrian Cerbu, and the Head of the Training and Research Department, Ecaterina Popa.
During the meeting, was presented the regional project which adress multiple aspects of gender equality and will be implemented by UN Women Moldova and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark during 2024-2027.
Discussions have evolved to identify potential training activities for NIJ beneficiaries, especially in the field of preventing and combating sexual harassment in the workplace. Thus, various possibilities for achieving common objectives were outlined, by organizing mixed trainings to ensure an in-depth understanding of the topic by legal professionals and by conducting an anonymous survey, to assess the scale of the phenomenon and to establish effective methods of intervention. It was also mentioned the usefulness of creating informative and didactic materials in order to prevent cases of sexual harassment (e-capsule, documentary spots, flyers, etc.), as well as organizing debates for the trainees of the National Institute of Justice in order to raise awareness among future judges and prosecutors on the issues and to encourage the exchange of ideas in this field.
Towards the end of the meeting, it was agreed on the necessity for further discussions to develop a concrete action plan and detailing the practical aspects of implementing the proposed actions.
