In the afternoon of Monday, June 10, 2024, the Ad interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, Adrian Cerbu, met with the deputy representative of the UNICEF in the Republic of Moldova, Ilija Talev, to discuss the challenges and needs of the NIJ in the fields of child protection, child-friendly justice, violence against minors and gender-based violence.
The dialogue focused on several aspects related to the initial training of candidates to the positions of judge and prosecutor and the continuous training of the NIJ beneficiaries, emphasizing the importance of these professionals to have the necessary knowledge and skills in order to effectively address cases involving children and their associated problems. Thus, the opportunity of organizing joint training sessions on specific but current topics, such as international adoptions or international child abductions, was mentioned.
Another topic considered during the meeting was the development of practical guides and the updating of the course supports to ensure a training process adapted to the needs of time.
The parties expressed their commitment to work together to respond to challenges in the field of child protection and to implement effective and sustainable solutions to improve the justice system for minors and combat violence against them, including gender-based violence.
On behalf of the NIJ, the meeting was also attended by Olga Marandici, advisor to the NIJ Director, Ion Bocan, Head of the continuous training section; and Veronica Goinic and Tatiana Danilescu - child protection officers from UNICEF Moldova.
