The trainees of the National Institute of Justice, candidates to the positions of judge and prosecutor, participated on March 18, 2024, in discussions with representatives of the Organization National Center for State Courts Williamsburg (NCSC): Olimpia Gribincea, Director of the Chisinau branch, Timothy Hughes, Director of international programs, and Rachel Morley, legal advisor. The theme of the event was research, reasoning and legal writing.
The future judges and prosecutors were familiarized with the project „Strengthening of research, writing and legal reasoning in Moldova” and the stages of its realization, as well as with the structure of the optional course „Research, writing and legal reasoning” introduced in the study program at the law faculties of the country. In particular, there were discussed issues related to drafting a court decision, drafting process, legal reasoning in motivating the court decision, etc. Also emphasizing the importance of dialogue between law schools, the National Institute of Justice and the Lawyers Training Center, NCSC representatives were interested in hearing the audience's opinions and recommendations on how to develop and strengthen legal writing skills.
The project „Strengthening Legal Research, Writing and Reasoning in Moldova” is implemented by the National Center for State Courts in collaboration with William & Mary University of Williamsburg, under the auspices of the US Department of State.
