The National Institute of Justice was visited on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, by the delegation of the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) in Stockholm, the Kingdom of Sweden, represented by Cecilia Sternemo and Fallckolm Cuenca, Department for Democratic Governance, and Hanna Hogberg and Julia Qvist, Department of bilateral Eastern Europe cooperation. The representatives met with Ecaterina Popa, the ad interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, Olga Marandici, head of the International Relations Section, and Cezara-Elena Polisca, head of the Didactic-methodical and Training of Trainers Section.
The topics of the meeting focused on both the mission and the role of the National Institute of Justice in the judicial training of professionals in the legal system, as well as issues related to the challenges and needs of support in the implementation of strategic documents on justice reform. In this context, Ecaterina Popa appreciated the efforts of the member countries of the European community, including the Kingdom of Sweden, which, through several projects, invest in developing the professional skills of the NIJ beneficiaries and support the Republic of Moldova in accession to the European Union.
In turn, FBA representatives stated on the mandate given by the Swedish government to support the justice and administrative reform in our country, as well as on their sphere of competence. Also, was underlined the FBA's openness to provide broad expertise in the areas of the rule of law, human rights and the European acquis.
The Folke Bernadotte Academy is a Swedish government agency for peace, security and development, which, among other things, delivers training courses, provides guidance and conducts researches to strengthen peace and good governance.
